We commisison high-quality projects which are location-specific, offering unusual and stimulating opportunities for creativity and collaboration to artists and local people.
Stream's Peninsula programme takes the changing landscapes of the area, both physical and social, as its subject. A new town is slowly emerging on the riverfront by the O2, a transformation from old industrial economy to new housing, retail and office developments as well as iconic new buildings such as the new site for Ravensbourne College. The change is dramatic.
Earlier artists' commissions have sought to interrogate the histories and identities of the area, to map differing perspectives and to express these in the context of current and future change. Artists have collaborated with local residents to produce emotion maps, accidental holidays, gps audio walks and cauliflower installations.
Current commissions seek to respond to the diverse and separated spaces of the peninsula area, both old and new; to animate the physical landscape and to express the social landscape through collaboration, performance and the use of communication technologies and methodologies.
